Dear Governor Lombardo,
Moms, dads, and families across Nevada are urging you to add the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) emergency system proposal to your proclamation calling for the special session.
While the Federal Government might be reopening, there is a new federal funding deadline set for January 30th 2026. That means that in just a few months we could be right back where we started with SNAP benefits at risk for Nevada families. It’s critical that Nevada can take steps during this special session to ensure hardworking Nevada SNAP recipients aren’t in the crossfire of these federal fights again.
The Nevada Legislature needs to take action to put a system in place going forward that can address this crisis head-on if the federal government continues to experience destabilizing shutdowns. It is unacceptable for Nevadans to have to choose between putting food on the table and other basic needs to live their lives when our state can take decisive action now.
1 in 6 Nevadans utilize SNAP benefits to take care of their families, contribute to their communities, and build good lives, which in turn lifts businesses and the economy. We urge you to add SNAP to your proclamation for the special session and help ensure stability for Nevada families and economy in the future. We also ask that once the Nevada Legislature takes action, you sign the bill into law.
Sincerely,
