It’s hard to believe it’s already mid-May and for many the transition between the school year and the summer is starting. We know how challenging this school year and living in a pandemic has been for so many American families. And we appreciate all you’ve done to take action, make your voice heard, and help bring relief to so many families.

This week, we have 5Actions for you. If you have already taken some of these actions, please use the share button to spread the word on Facebook and Twitter.

BREAKING: Supreme Court granted Mississippi’s request to review Mississippi’s 15-week abortion, putting 25 million people at risk of losing access to abortion.

On Monday, May 17th, the SCOTUS agreed to consider a law in Mississippi which will ultimately rollback abortion and healthcare rights. The law itself puts Roe v. Wade at risk and if upheld and adapted, will grant states the right to limit abortion for people seeking abortion healthcare services. We cannot let this happen! It’s more important than ever that Congress act to protect the right to access abortion care throughout the U.S.

Take action by urging Congress to support abortion access by sponsoring the Women’s Health Protection Act NOW!

What will happen to you & your family if federal unemployment benefits are cut?

Republican governors in 22 states have cruelly (and ridiculously) decided to end the $300/month boost in federal unemployment benefits, as well as end the expanded eligibility for federal benefits that allowed workers normally left out of the unemployment program, a decision that will disproportionately harm women and people of color; as it also harms our economy.

Do you live in a state that is cutting federal unemployment benefits or would you be impacted if your governor decided to do so? We want to hear from YOU! Personal experiences are powerful and can make a HUGE difference in helping elected leaders understand why taking critical steps—like protecting and extending Unemployment Insurance—are essential to the health and well-being of our communities, families, and economy.

Tell us about what unemployment benefits mean to you and your family and we'll share your experience directly with leaders (you can even do so anonymously)!

Paid Leave for All. Now.

Many families find themselves struggling right now--forced to figure out how to care for themselves or a loved one with zero weeks of paid leave. Paid leave is the key to our long-term health, stability, and prosperity. Paid leave saves jobs. Paid leave saves lives. We can and we must pass it now.

Tell Congress to act quickly to pass the American Families Plan and fully implement paid leave as quickly as possible so that the United States will finally have permanent and robust paid leave for all.

 CCFWA2021

Tell Congress to solve the childcare crisis!

According to the Census Bureau, just past January some 1.6 million fewer mothers living with school-age children were actively working compared with a year before. That’s a lot of breadwinners pushed out of much-needed jobs. Women, particularly women and moms of color, have borne the brunt of this pandemic, with millions of women having been forced to leave the workforce (and much-needed jobs) often to take on caretaking roles.

There is a solution that would help address this ongoing childcare crisis. Today, Congress will be re-introducing the Child Care for Working Families Act, which establishes a child care and early learning infrastructure that ensures working families can find and afford the child care they need to succeed in the workforce and children can get the early education they need to thrive.

Urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor and support the Child Care for Working Families Act to expand access to affordable, high-quality early learning for families!

Urge your Member of Congress to Support the EACH Act!

Banning abortion doesn’t end abortion — it just ends safe, legal abortion. Legislation such as the EACH Act will ensure that harmful bans on abortion that deny coverage just because someone is struggling financially, like the Hyde Amendment, will be overturned. Lack of coverage should never stand in the way of anyone making the best decision for themselves and their family.

Urge your members of Congress to support and co-sponsor the EACH Act.
