Tell Mayor Nutter - Sign the paid sick days bill!

Two weeks ago, the Philadelphia City Council passed paid sick days by an 11-6 vote. Mayor Michael Nutter has the power to sign this important legislation into law, but last time the bill was passed, he vetoed it. This time has got to be different. Too many Philly residents, four in 10, live in fear of losing their job if they call in sick or if they have to stay home with a sick child. It isn't right. We've got to give it everything we've got to make Philly a healthier, more just place.

Tell Mayor Nutter to stand up for Philly families and sign the bill.

Sign Today!

Dear Mayor Nutter,

Paid sick days are about justice. Families need the economic security that comes with knowing unemployment is not one illness away. Paid sick days are also good for business and the public health. Please stand up for Philly families and our economy and sign the paid sick days bill into law.

    Dear, Friend

I've got some great news for you! The Philadelphia City Council passed paid sick days with an 11-6 vote on March 14. [1]

Together, we sent hundreds of messages encouraging the City Council to pass the ordinance, and the majority of the Council listened. Thank you so much for every message, story, and phone call.

Unfortunately, we can’t celebrate quite yet – the bill now goes to Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. The last time the city council passed the paid sick days bill, Mayor Nutter vetoed it. We need this time to be different.

We need to use our outside voices now, more than ever. Tell Mayor Nutter, "Philly has spoken. We want paid sick days. Sign the bill today!" http://action.momsrising.org/sign/PSD_Mayor?source=taf

Paid sick days are about justice. Families need the economic security that comes with knowing unemployment is not one flu away. It's time for Mayor Nutter to acknowledge all the work Philadelphia residents have put into making Philly a smarter, kinder place and sign the paid sick days bill.

Right now, 4 in 10 people who work in Philadelphia cannot earn a single sick day. [2] That number jumps to 9 in 10 when it comes to the people who make and serve our food. [3] It just isn't right.

Thank you for being part of making this right. Please urge Mayor Nutter to sign the bill today. http://action.momsrising.org/sign/PSD_Mayor?source=taf

And if you can, please share this email with your friends, or post the action link on Facebook and Twitter. It's really important that we spread the word and avoid another veto. Philly is counting on us.

Together, we are a powerful force for moms and families.

    Thank you,

Charlie, Ruth and the whole MomsRising.org team
