Dear members of Congress,
Every day, working moms and caregivers make decisions about their lives and their families; do they put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads or do they take care of their loved ones in times of urgent need? It’s a choice no one should have to make.
Working families need family centered policies that will lower costs and help them get back on their feet. Policies like paid family and medical leave that allow them to take the vital time off they need to recover from childbirth, bond with a new child, or provide care for themselves or a loved one when a critical health issue arises.
As our nation embarks on the road to economic recovery and prosperity, we cannot afford to overlook the needs of those who have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and thrust into economic peril. Just as Congress has invested in mending our roads and bridges and creating jobs, they must also invest in our families and our communities by providing them with the support they need to get back on their feet so they too can continue to contribute to the economy. Working families need comprehensive and permanent paid family and medical leave.
Passing family-centered policies like paid leave will help lower costs for working families who are in desperate need of relief from a crumbling and antiquated care infrastructure that boasts unaffordable child care and long term care. Studies show this essential policy also helps businesses and boosts the economy. Providing paid family and medical leave is the next step forward for our nation. Moms, caregivers and working families require policies that allow them to participate fully in the labor force while also providing care to their loved ones in times of need. This should not be an either/or.
Working families need paid family and medical leave and they are depending on you to follow through on your promise to deliver it to them. We urge you to support working families, small businesses, and our economy by passing paid family and medical leave for all.
Sincerely,
