Dear member of Congress,
I am writing to ask that you commit to supporting legislation that will give working families the opportunity we need to not only survive, but also thrive in our state. Today MomsRising is joining with the National Diaper Bank Network at our Nation’s Capitol to lobby our members of Congress to pass the End Diaper Need Act - a bill that will address the diaper needs of low-income families and adults, and I want to amplify their efforts and ask that you support their policy priorities as well.
The inability to afford diapers forces some families to resort to delaying diaper changes to make their supply last longer or reusing disposable diapers. Such coping strategies are unsafe. The struggle to purchase diapers also creates an additional economic barrier for working families as most child care providers require parents to provide diapers. Of parents experiencing diaper need, one in four reported having to miss work or school because they did not have enough diapers to drop their child off at child care. Parents and families need infrastructural support to continue contributing to the workforce while also caring for their children.
Working families, like mine, are the backbone of our country and keep our economy and workforce thriving. Supporting the End Diaper Need Act will make a lasting positive economic impact for parents, families, and communities. I respectfully and urgently ask for you to support and co-sponsor the End Diaper Need Act.
Thank you for your leadership and service. I look forward to seeing the change we can make for families across the country.
Sincerely,
