As a parent and as member of MomsRising, I'm writing to ask you to support the student loan reform legislation package including the Early Learning Challenge Fund.

The student loan reform legislation would streamline college loans, reducing their cost to students and saving the taxpayers an estimated $87 billion over ten years.

Part of the savings from streamlining the federal student loan program would then fund the Early Learning Challenge Fund-- competitive grants to states to build comprehensive, high-quality early learning systems for children from birth to age 5.

Leading economists agree that when we invest in high-quality, comprehensive early learning services and programs, we see big returns-- from higher graduation rates to reducing the for need criminal justice services.

The House of Representatives approved its Student Assistance and Fiscal Responsibility Act in September; now we need the Senate to do its part.   In a time of tight budgets, investing in helping students along the path to a college education makes far more sense than spending the money on bank fees. Please pass this important bill in time to spend taxpayer dollars on education, not banks!
