Tell Congress to Protect Tax Credits for Working Families!

Right now, Congress is making decisions about tax reform. Some members of Congress want to use this opportunity to require hard-working families pay more in federal income taxes by making harmful cuts to the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.

Dear Member of Congress,

As one of over a million members of MomsRising, I am writing to urge you to protect and strengthen the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) which help hard-working families make ends meet and stimulate our economy.

While considering different policy options for tax reform, please make sure that no cuts or other harmful changes are made to the EITC and the CTC. In 2011, these credits lifted 4.9 million children out of poverty, which is more than any other public program.

Both of these tax credits reward work, help working parents save for the future, and stimulate our economy. For every $1 provided by the EITC, it is estimated that $1.50 ends up being spent locally, which is a great investment in our economy.

Too many American families with children are still struggling to keep afloat in this tough economy. Please stand up for them by permanently extending the improvements made in 2009 to the EITC and CTC. In 2011, the improvements alone kept 1.5 million people, including 800,000 children, out of poverty and stimulated our economy in important ways.
         
At a time when Congress needs to set critical budget and tax priorities, there are few investments with as strong a track record and a big impact as these tax credits for working families.
