Let's Keep Our Children Safe

One of the first and biggest challenges new moms face is figuring out care for our children while we work. Thankfully, NC has a strong set of foundational rules in place for our state’s child care centers that we as parents rely upon to keep our kids safe and healthy when we can’t be with them.

Unfortunately, these rules and thousands of others are in jeopardy because of new legislation working its way through the General Assembly. Our state’s lawmakers shouldn’t put our children at risk with this unnecessary legislation.

Let your lawmakers know that protecting child care rules matters to your family!

As a responsible parent, I invest a great deal of time and treasure in finding dependable child care for my children while I’m at work. In return I have some clear expectations about quality and safety.

Key to my peace of mind is the knowledge that NC has a broad set of rules designed to keep young children safe and healthy when they go to child care.  It’s taken years to get this set of rules in place, and they provide an essential foundation for child health and safety.

Unfortunately, these rules and thousands of others are in jeopardy thanks to HB 74/ SB 32 which would require all administrative rules to be reviewed and re-adopted or they would expire.  As your constituent, I ask you to oppose this legislation.

Due to the large number of rules that govern child care in NC, the review and re-adoption process for child care rules would be extremely time- consuming and cost-prohibitive.  This process could result in a huge backlog of rules that need re-adoption, and place foundational, critical health and safety rules for child care at risk of expiring.  These rules are essential to the well-being of our children and should not be allowed to sunset.  It would also take a huge investment of time from state agency staff, not to mention time from the Child Care Commission that would otherwise be used to focus on continuing to improve child care in NC.

This legislation is unnecessary, costly, and places our children’s well-being at unacceptable risk.  Please stand up of our state’s children and families and oppose HB 74/ SB 32.
