Lessons from the Ice Cream Truck
Your message to friends:
I just got an email from MomsRising about the Affordable Care Act repeal vote tomorrow in Congress. It's copied below so you can find out more about the vote and the status of the ACA. I sent a letter to my members of Congress asking them to stay strong and support the Affordable Care Act. Will you do the same? It only takes a moment to sign: http://action.momsrising.org/letter/staystrongACA/?source=taf Thanks! --Friend Ah, the call of the ice cream truck. The minute he hears the music from a distance, my four year-old begins begging, “Can I have an ice cream?!” He tries every possible approach – when I say no, he corners his father, and has even resorted to asking a neighbor to buy one for him. These antics are funny – in a four year-old. But it’s not funny when it comes to our health care security. Even though the Affordable Care Act already passed Congress, the President already signed it into law, and the Supreme Court ruled that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional; tomorrow, Congress will vote again to try to repeal health care reform. You see, some members of Congress, and the high dollar donors from the insurance industry who support them, are still not deterred in their efforts to roll back important consumer health protections that are just becoming more available. Seriously? It’s time for Congress and insurance industry lobbyists to get a clue – millions of American families like (and need!) health reform and we’re not budging! *Tell your Members of Congress to stop trying to take away our new consumer rights and move on to creating jobs and strengthening our economy! http://action.momsrising.org/letter/staystrongACA/?source=taf The U.S. House of Representatives is voting tomorrow (Wednesday) to repeal the Affordable Care Act and it’s critical that we send a strong and clear message of support for health reform to Congress and candidates for office across the country. Why do so many American families support the Affordable Care Act? The Law makes it so the insurance companies can't rip you off anymore: Insurance companies no longer have unchecked power to cancel your policy, deny you coverage, or charge women more than men. Americans will never again be denied care or charged more due to a pre-existing condition, like cancer or even asthma. Preventive care will be covered free of charge by insurance companies--including mammograms for women and wellness visits for seniors. Millions of Americans will receive a rebate because their insurance company spent too much of their premium on administrative costs or CEO bonuses. Insurance companies will be required to provide health-benefit information to consumers in plain, understandable language – AKA no more loopholes and fine print. It’s time to move on. At a time when some in Congress seem fixated on repealing health reform, the country faces real and serious challenges in strengthening our economy and creating jobs. We need our leaders to work on these issues – rather than hopelessly trying to derail a bill that’s finally protecting our families against insurance industry abuses. No means no! *Tell your Members of Congress to stay strong and continue to support the Affordable Care Act today! http://action.momsrising.org/letter/staystrongACA/?source=taf After you send your letters to Congress, please forward this email to your fellow parents, family members and colleagues so they can stand up for health reform too! -- Ashley, Kristin, Claire, and the whole MomsRising.org team
