Dear Member of Congress:
When it comes to the budget, it’s important to think about the kind of country we want to be: a country that offers opportunities for all, especially our kids, and an economy that works for everyone. We ask that you keep this vision in mind when making important budget decisions in the months to come.
A shocking 14.5 million children live in poverty and 1 in 4 children live in families experiencing food insecurity. We cannot give big corporations and the wealthy tax breaks at the expense of investments like education, healthcare and nutrition that ensure our kids have a bright future.
Programs, like Headstart, SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, Afterschool and Summer programs, pre-K, and childcare assistance help struggling families put food on the table and care for their children while creating a brighter future through high-quality education and healthcare. These programs are critical for children and families and our economy and must be protected.
Our families need a federal budget that invests in kids, protects vulnerable families, and sets our country on a path to prosperity. Current proposals that would slash funding from programs that lift families would damage our economy and hurt the most vulnerable in our country, including low-income families, children, people with disabilities, the elderly and people of color.
Our nation’s budget should reflect and respond to the needs of everyday families. How we spend our federal dollars says a lot about our nation’s priorities and morals. It is vital to securing our future and our children’s future. We need a budget that doesn’t just line the pockets of the wealthy and well-connected, but also provides opportunities for our children and families to succeed.
As you take on these important funding decisions we ask that you please be sure that you use all the tools at your disposal to light a way forward for today’s children to be tomorrow’s leaders, and for our nation’s future economic success.
Thank you!
