Hi, I just signed this thank you note for Governor Brown who signed Medi-Cal expansion into law. This will make over a million Californian's eligible for health coverage! Can you take a second and add your name, too? Thanks! Friend -- Dear Friend, We've got great news! Governor Brown just signed a bill that will make Medi-Cal health coverage available to over a million moderate-income, uninsured Californians beginning in January 2014! This is an important step in ensuring a healthier California. Starting January 1st, people who earn up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level ($15,415/year for an individual or $26,244/year for a family of three) will be eligible for no or low-cost Medi-Cal coverage regardless of whether they have children or are disabled. MomsRising members like you and many other health and consumer organizations fought hard for the expansion of Medi-Cal because it will help Californians get and stay healthy and pave the way for a healthier future for our state. Great work! Add your name to our digital "Thank You" card to Governor Brown for helping California become a healthier state. Sign here: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/CA_GovBrown_Thank/?source=taf Why take the time to thank Governor Brown? For one, lawmakers rarely get thanked for doing the right thing! Your appreciation will tell Governor Brown—and the many other Governors who are still deciding whether or not to expand Medicaid coverage in their states—that access to affordable health coverage is important to their constituents. Expanding Medi-Cal is a win-win because it's a sound investment. People who have coverage through Medicaid programs like Medi-Cal get more preventative care (like annual check-ups, mammograms, and well-woman visits), live longer and are even more productive at work. Expanded Medicaid coverage are also important investments in our health care infrastructure (doctors, hospitals, clinics) and improves learning in school. [1] This expansion of Medi-Cal will create much needed jobs and is expected to bring between $2.1 and $3.5 billion in federal money to California in 2014. [2] Take a minute right now to thank Governor Brown for doing the right thing and expanding access to affordable health coverage in California! http://action.momsrising.org/sign/CA_GovBrown_Thank/?source=taf Together, we are a powerful voice for a healthier California! Felicia, Ashley, and the whole MomsRising team P.S. Those who are newly eligible for Medi-Cal can apply as of October 1st for coverage beginning January 1, 2014.
