California: It's time to raise the wage!

Starting next week the California Assembly is going to consider a bill that would gradually raise the minimum wage in the state from $8 an hour to $13 an hour by 2017.  With 24% of California’s 38 million residents living in poverty and a mom working full-time earning the current minimum wage bringing home just $15,360 annually before taxes, this raise is desperately needed.

It’s time that California lawmakers hear from moms and dads! We need you, yes YOU, to make your voice heard. Contact your Assemblymember today. Tell him or her, “Support hard working moms and dads by raising the minimum wage to $13 an hour!”

Dear Assemblymember,

Please support SB 935 and vote to raise the minimum wage in California to $13 an hour by 2017. This important bill will gradually raise the minimum wage $1 each year until it reaches $13 an hour and then will index it to inflation.

California families need this raise! 24% of California’s 38 million residents live in poverty. A mom working full-time earning $8 an hour brings home just $15,360 annually before taxes. Considering that the federal poverty level for a family of four is $23,850, it’s no wonder these families are struggling and unable to provide fully for their children.

Please stand with me, and parents across the state, and vote YES on SB 935.
