Dear Member of Congress,
More than 21 percent of American children live in households facing a constant struggle against hunger. To have so many hungry, poorly nourished children in the United States is heartbreaking and unbearable, but we can continue our progress in reducing child hunger. The reauthorization of the Child Nutrition program this year should build on the success we have achieved since the Hunger-Free, Healthy Kids Act of 2010.
The Child Nutrition Reauthorization of 2015 is an important opportunity for us, as a nation, to improve, strengthen, and protect child nutrition and school meal programs to better meet the needs of kids in pre-school, school-based and out-of-school settings.
Over the course of the reauthorization process, we urge you to do everything in your power to give as many children as possible access to nutritious, healthy food through the range of services under review, including those focused on summer nutrition, the school lunch and breakfast program, the Child and Adults Care Food Program (CACFP), and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
And please protect the scientific-based nutrition standards of child nutrition feeding programs.
Mothers and families across the country are counting on you to defend children against hunger and poor nutrition.
Sincerely,
