Are you kidding me?!?!

NoMadMenPayWhich is it: Are we supposed to "Lean In" or not?  Apparently, "leaning in" can get you FIRED when you start asking inconvenient questions! Yesterday the news broke that New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson was fired, and the New Yorker and NPR are both reporting that it may have to do with Abramson asking quesitons about possible gender pay discrimination.

If it turns out to be true that Abramson was fired, at least in part, for making inquires into wage discrimination that is terrible, unacceptable, and – sadly – legal. This will keep happening, to people a whole lot less powerful than Ambranson, unless we act.

We need Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would, among other things, prohibit employers from retaliating against workers who discuss salaries with colleagues.

Dear Senator,

It's past time to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. It's been over 50 years since the Equal Pay Act was enacted but women still earn, on average, 23 percent less than men earn. Mothers and women of color experience increased wage hits on top of that.

Frustratingly, we don't have all the tools we need to combat the wage gap because many employees face retaliation from their employers if they inquire about wage discrepancies.

Let's put an end to the "Mad Men" era policies and pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.
