Tell Maryland Senators to raise the wage for ALL workers

The bill to raise the minimum wage in Maryland is quickly moving along but we’ve reached a major crisis moment: The House version of the minimum wage bill leaves tipped workers (waitresses, bartenders etc.) behind, cutting their wages by freezing them at $3.63 per hour forever.

The Senate is considering the bill right now and we need the moms and dads of Maryland to make it known that all Maryland minimum wage workers should get a raise.

Two in three tipped workers are women. One in three are parents. Tipped work is one of the fastest growing occupations and one of the lowest paid, especially for workers of color.

Please write your Senator and tell him/her why it is important that tipped workers receive a raise as well.

I support legislation to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour. As you consider this legislation, do not cut wages for tipped workers. Waitresses, bartenders, valets, and others deserve a fair wage like everyone else.

Tipped workers need a strong base wage paid directly by their employers in order to offset the uncertainty of a tipped income. This is an issue that deeply affects Maryland women and families since 2 in 3 tipped workers are women and 1 in 3 are parents.

Raising the wage for all Maryland workers would generate more than $456 million in new economic activity and would create or support 1,600 new jobs as businesses expand to meet increased consumer demand.

Please stand with me in raising the wage for all workers, including tipped workers.
