Enough of Dirty Energy

In North Carolina, a large storm pipe under one of Duke Energy's closed power plants ruptured, releasing an estimated 82,000 tons of coal ash, as well as up to 27 million gallons of polluted “basin water” into the Dan River.

Now tens of thousands of tons of this basin water is making its way downstream to the Gaston Reservoir at the North Carolina and Virginia border, which serves the heavily populated communities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk. This spill is yet another example of the dangers of relying on dirty energy.

Dirty energy threatens public health across the country each and every day. Coal-fired power plants collectively produce nearly 40 percent of the carbon emissions in the United States, pollution that provokes asthma and other respiratory illnesses.

We all know it's time to make our energy cleaner to protect the health of our families. Sign on to demand that power plants are as clean as possible!

I strongly support limiting industrial carbon pollution from all power plants.

Such new clean air standards will protect the health of American families -- especially our kids -- and fight climate change.

It’s our obligation to protect our children and future generations.
