Dear Member of Congress,
The tax bills being considered by Congress are harmful to working families, small businesses, and our economy. Please vote NO on the damaging tax plans.
Here are just 4 ways the GOP’s tax plans would hurt small businesses, including the more than 9 million small businesses owned by women:
- The GOP tax plans will kill jobs—The only piece of the GOP tax plans that are permanent is the lowering of the corporate tax rates, which primarily helps very large businesses without spurring hiring. Since World War II, productivity and wage growth in the U.S. economy have been significantly greater in periods with higher corporate tax rates.
- The GOP tax plans leave out small businesses- Decreasing the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20% as proposed in the GOP tax plans puts more money in the pockets of large corporations, NOT small businesses. A decrease in the corporate tax rates further tilts the scales in favor of large corporations, giving them an unfair edge over Main Street small businesses and hurting our competitive business environment. Not to mention, the GOP tax plans advance lower tax rates on foreign profits over domestic profits which incentivizes big businesses to shift investment and work out of the country, therefore damaging both our local and national economies.
- The GOP tax plan proposes broken policies that hurt our economy- History shows that huge tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy don’t pay for themselves through miraculous economic growth—that’s why “trickle-down economics” is purely a myth. Rather than cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy, small business owners constantly say they need more customers, and that requires robust government investment in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and nutrition programs in their communities.
- The GOP tax plans will cut healthcare- Repealing the individual mandate requirement under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), like the U.S. Senate version of the tax plan does, will cut access to health care and also increase healthcare costs for small business owners and their employees, stifling entrepreneurship and making it harder for small businesses to compete for talented employees as they choose to work for large employers in order to secure affordable health insurance.
I strongly urge you to vote NO on the current proposals and go back to the drawing board and create a tax plan that places women, working families and small businesses front and center, rather than give a handout to special interests, mega-corporations, and ultra-wealthy individuals that does very little to boost our economy.
Moms, dads, and concerned voters are depending on you to do the right thing!
Sincerely,
