CA parents: Act before March 1 to get private health coverage for your children at lower rates--regardless of their health status or if they’ve been turned down before.

Thanks to a new federal law, private insurance companies can no longer deny health coverage to children. If your child is one of the 1.5 million California children without insurance, you can now get them coverage through private or low-cost state plans.  To learn more:

    Health Coverage for CA Kids
    Dear Friends,

For the first time in history, every child in California – including approximately 490,000 children who have pre-existing conditions – is now eligible for health coverage.

This is great news, but there’s a small catch!

Parents who want to take advantage of buying coverage for their children with pre-existing conditions need to act by March 1st -- just 17 days away! -- to secure the lowest rates for health coverage.

Take a moment to share this critical information with two or three California parents now: http://action.momsrising.org/signup/CAHealthInsurance/?source=taf

When you click on the link above, you'll get access to our tools that allow you to spread the word by email, Facebook, and Twitter. Three clicks and you're done!

What’s the rush? Beginning last September, the Affordable Care Act made it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage for uninsured children. Insurance companies offered policies to all children, but often charged outrageously high rates for children with pre-existing conditions, keeping these policies out of reach of most families. In response, California legislators passed a law requiring insurance companies to offer policies for children at reduced rates during a limited open enrollment period, which ends on March 1st, 2011. After this date, insurance companies are free to – and likely will – charge more for policies to coverage children with pre-existing conditions.

Parents who already have individual policies for their kids (because they are not covered by their employer or they cannot afford their employer's plan), can use this open enrollment period to find less expensive coverage. However, children who are already covered under their parent's employer-based plans won't be affected at all and parents or guardians don't need to do anything during this period.
