As drug prices have risen, insurers are shifting costs to consumers, and families are being harmed. Across the country, families are at risk for poor health outcomes because impossibly high drug prices are preventing them from filling the prescriptions they need to maintain their health.
As of January of 2019, the prices on more than 250 prescription drugs increased by 6 percent or more. We cannot stand silent as this continues. Our lawmakers need to take action to lower prescription drug prices. Their top priority must be to address the outrageous list prices that manufacturers charge, which drive higher costs throughout the system. We also need lawmakers to bring costs and prices under control throughout the entire supply chain, including wholesale distributors, Pharmacy Benefit Managers, insurers and other payers, and retail pharmacies.
Kaiser Family Foundation found that 3 in 10 people across the country skip doses or refrain from filling prescriptions altogether due to high costs. The repercussions are horrendous, leading to deteriorating health for family members trying to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other chronic conditions. Our nation deserves better and we need to rein in rising prescription drug prices, which will save the lives of countless Americans. We need Congress to pass H.R 3 now.
