Dear Member of Congress:
In this 52nd year since the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, which made abortion legal, we continue to stand firmly for our right to make decisions about our healthcare and our bodies. We ask you to stand with us in this fight to maintain, restore, and expand access to abortion.
Abortion bans have been deadly to mothers in states all over the country that already have some of the highest rates of maternal deaths. Amber Thurman and Candi Miller of Georgia, and Josseli Barnica and Porsha Ngumezi of Texas were denied this essential health care. As a result of abortion bans, their children and families are mourning the preventable deaths of their mothers.[1,2,3,4] The fact is, six in ten people who have abortion are already moms, and voters in the United States have consistently supported expanding abortion access.[5,6] Most Americans agree: abortion care should be available to everyone who needs it.
We will continue fighting for this bodily autonomy, a widely held right in all other industrialized countries, so that we don’t have to bury any more mothers.
We demand that you stand with us in this fight.
Sincerely,
