A living wage. Paid sick days. Paid family and medical leave.
These policies represent the essential foundation of what working people need to provide for themselves and their families.
The efforts of hardworking people keep North Carolina’s economy going –we deserve family-friendly workplace policies that help all families thrive while still building a strong economy!
Yet here in North Carolina workers have been stuck with a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour and a $2.13 tipped hourly wage since 2008!
In our state, working people aren’t guaranteed the right to earn a single paid sick day – even in the face of a global pandemic! As a result, 1.5 million working North Carolinians have ZERO paid sick days for themselves or a sick family member to recover, to go to the doctor, or to seek help if they are the victim of domestic violence sexual assault, or stalking.
And, while almost all working people will need to take leave at some point in their lives to recover from a health crisis, welcome a new child, or care for a seriously ill or dying loved one, only 1 in 5 working North Carolinians is able to take leave to recover or provide care without losing the paycheck they need.
This is unacceptable!
Today moms, kids, and our allies from the NC Families Care and Raising Wages NC coalitions are at the NC General Assembly speaking out for paid leave, paid sick days, and raising the minimum and tipped wages. Back us up with a quick email right now!
