As your constituent and one of thousands of MomsRising members in New Hampshire, I urge you to vote YES on SB 243 when it comes before the full House.
Right now, New Hampshire families are being pushed out of the workforce because they can’t find or afford child care. Providers are struggling with outdated systems and financial instability. And our state’s economy is feeling the ripple effects of a broken child care system.
SB 243 offers targeted, commonsense solutions to improve the child care scholarship program—helping families access care more quickly, easing paperwork burdens, and ensuring providers can afford to participate in the system.
This bill passed the Senate with unanimous support and is backed by families, providers, and business leaders who know that child care is the backbone of a strong economy.
The data is clear: in 2023 alone, families in New Hampshire may have lost up to $177.9 million in wages due to child care gaps, and businesses may have lost $55.5 million in productivity and costs related to benefits. The child care shortage is costing our state an estimated $292 million each year in lost earnings, business output, and tax revenue. We can’t afford to keep falling behind.
SB 243 is the only bill this session focused on addressing the child care crisis through fixing barriers to our child care scholarship program. I urge you to overturn the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee’s recommendation and support SB 243 on the House floor. New Hampshire families—and our economy—are counting on it.
Sincerely,
