Vote NO on HB 10! Families Belong Together!
For the last six years, MomsRising/ MamâsConPoder members, our allies, and partners have been fighting bills that would force local sheriffs to collaborate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The latest version, HB 10, passed out of the NC Senate Thursday morning on a party line vote with 28 Republicans voting for and 15 Democrats voting against this anti-immigrant bill. The bill is now headed back to the NC House as soon as Tuesday for one final vote before it would head to Governor Cooper’s desk.
HB 10 is bad for our families, our communities, our state, and our economy. It would deter immigrants from reporting sexual assault or domestic violence to the police and put members of our community at risk of deportation. It would erode community trust in law enforcement, making our communities less safe and increase racial profiling and family separation.
Something as simple as a traffic violation, requiring no jail time, can put people on track for deportation, blurring the lines between the criminal system and the immigration system.
The harm HB 10 would cause is immense, and North Carolina moms are disappointed, saddened, frightened, and absolutely outraged.
We can’t stop fighting this anti-immigrant legislation and standing with immigrant families.
Time is running out! Please send a message to your NC State Representative RIGHT NOW telling them to VOTE NO on HB 10!
