Quick Action Needed on Unemployment Extensions
    Dear Friend,

The Grinch lives, and apparently not on a mountain above Whoville, but on a much lower plateau on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.Cville. Today, in an act of unrestrained Grinchiness, the House leadership is blocking an extension of federal unemployment benefits, potentially leaving millions of families out in the cold when the program expires on December 31st.

Hey, it's time for the hearts of all Congressional Grinches to grow.

*Your U.S. representative needs to hear from you now that extending unemployment insurance is a critical step in helping families and the economy:

Unless Congress acts now to renew federal unemployment insurance, nearly 2 million people will be cut off in the month of January alone. Millions more would have this critical lifeline cut off in the near future – more than 6 million would lose these benefits during 2012. [1]

Time is short! Send a message to your U.S. Representative today:

Unemployment insurance isn’t just good for families who struggle to make ends meet; it is also good for the economy. Extending unemployment insurance will immediately help keep 1.8 million families afloat–and will also continue to support our struggling economy. How does it help our economy? Well, studies show that the money received as part of unemployment insurance is usually spent right away, and an independent study found that every $1 spent on employment insurance stimulated $2 in growth in the U.S. economy. [2]

Moreover, families should be able to work hard and get what they need -- a good job, food on the table, good health, and a safe place to call home. Yet too many people who want to work, can't find jobs. Cutting off unemployment insurance will only hurt those families more, while further damaging the economy.

'Tis the season to grow the hearts of Grinches!

Send a message to Congress today:

When times are hard, instead of cutting back vital programs, we need to make sure that families are protected.

Together, we can send a strong message to Congress. They need to pay attention to the families struggling on Main Streets across the nation. Furthermore, when greedy corporations rig the economy, America loses. One important step forward that Congress can take now for people on Main Streets across the nation is to extend the federal unemployment insurance program.

Please also forward this email to friends--and post the action link on your Facebook page--so that more people can show they care about the millions of unemployed Americans who are struggling to find jobs and make ends meet.
