Send a Letter to the Editor to Protect SNAP!
This week, U.S. Senators and Representatives will be back in D.C. and they need to take care of one very important piece of legislation before they leave again in October for the midterm elections: The Farm Bill! The Farm Bill is the piece of legislation that funds SNAP (food stamps). SNAP helps 1 in 8 Americans across the country afford groceries. Super important right?
We want to send a loud, strong, important message in the form of our local newspapers to our U.S. Senators and Representatives! We want to make sure Congress passes a Farm Bill that protects SNAP from cuts and harmful changes, like work requirements, which particularly impact people who are ill, have disabilities, caregiving responsibilities or who are escaping domestic abuse.
***Can you take a quick, critical action and send a letter to the editor to your local paper speaking out to protect SNAP?
Here’s how to send your letter:
1) Fill in your name and contact information on this page in the form and click NEXT. Important note: We ask for your phone number because papers require this info with all letters, but your phone will NOT be published or shared!
2) When you get to the next screen, choose a newspaper for your letter—and then click on the Sample, Letter, and Talking Points buttons to write your letter. If you want to use part, or all of that sample letter, just copy and paste the text into the small empty box to the right on that page. It's easy!
3) Click send and watch for your letter to be published!
