Dear EEOC Commissioners,
MomsRising members across the country strongly encourage you to prioritize policies that protect Black women workers and advance racial and gender pay equity. We are deeply alarmed by recent rollbacks that undermine federal employment protections and the systematic dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. We demand that the Commission immediately fulfill its legal mandate to protect all workers from systemic harassment, discrimination, and pay inequity, free from political agendas.
Specifically, we call on the EEOC to:
- Save EEO-1 Demographic Data: Halt any and all efforts to eliminate or scale back the EEO-1 demographic data collection. This data is a critical cornerstone of civil rights enforcement. It is essential for tracking systemic pay discrimination and ensuring that Black women—and all historically marginalized workers—are fairly compensated.
- Enforce Strong Pay Transparency and Equity Protections: Fully enforce federal laws against race- and gender-based wage discrimination. We need active oversight, not a step backward that allows bad-actor corporations to hide pay disparities in the dark.
- Acknowledge and Address Workplace Sidelining: Proactively address the alarming rise in job losses among Black women, which has been exacerbated by federal layoffs and the targeting of equity programs. The EEOC must remain a shield for the workers who keep our care, health, and service industries running.
Economic security is a necessity for family survival, and Black women are disproportionately the primary breadwinners for their households. We urge the EEOC to protect the rights, dignity, and paychecks of Black women workers across the nation.
Sincerely,
