Stop treating breastfeeding like a political hot
potato! Moms, dads and grandparents of all political stripes agree -- promoting breastfeeding is good for all of
our nation's children. Criticizing efforts to promote breastfeeding might score quick political
points but it’s bad for our children in the long run. We expect our political leaders to support -- not undermine -- women who choose to breastfeed their children.

This is absurd!

Hello, Believe it or not, breastfeeding has become a political hot potato! Despite the fact that major medical institutions, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, recommend breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann decried the IRS’ recent decision to allow women to make breast pumps tax deductible as “the new definition of a nanny state.” What!? And then several days later, former Governor Sarah Palin mocked Michelle Obama’s decision to encourage breastfeeding as a way to help prevent youth obesity. This is absurd. Let's tell our political leaders, "Stop treating breastfeeding like a political hot potato! Promoting breastfeeding is good for all of our nation's children." http://action.momsrising.org/sign/BreastfeedingNotPolitical?source=taf MomsRising will deliver this petition to current members of Congress and leaders of both political parties to send the message that that moms and dads expect all of our political leaders to support -- not undermine -- efforts to expand breastfeeding. A mountain of medical research demonstrates breastfeeding improves the health of mothers and children. For this reason, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends mothers breastfeed exclusively for six months. It also makes financial sense. A recent study in the medical journal Pediatrics estimates the country could save up to $13 billion per year in health care and other costs if 90 percent of U.S. babies were exclusively breastfed for six months. Yes, $13 billion per year! Join me and MomsRising in sending a loud and clear message to our political leaders, "Moms and dads of all political stripes agree -- breastfeeding is good for children, and shouldn't be made into a political hot potato." http://action.momsrising.org/sign/BreastfeedingNotPolitical?source=taf By signing on and showing your support, we’ll alert legislators and politicians that moms and dads find this kind of debate absurd. Criticizing efforts to promote breastfeeding might score quick political points but it’s bad for our children in the long run. Let’s makes sure this political skirmish doesn't stop the progress we've made to ensuring that every mother who wants to breastfeed doesn't face economic and workplace barriers to doing so. Those women who choose to breastfeed deserve our support, not ridicule. Thanks!
