Dear Member of Congress,
Working families are facing an uphill battle trying to juggle work while also finding high-quality, affordable child care. Parents face serious challenges these days, starting with the fact that child care costs more than college tuition in most states. The cost of child care disproportionately affects low-income families as they are forced to spend a greater percentage of their income on child care.
Luckily there is a solution. Please support changes to strengthen the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit to support families across the country. Changes to this important tax credit helps families manage the cost of child care in two ways:
(1) Making the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC) fully refundable, and,
(2) increasing the allowable expense limit, therefore helping more working families realistically afford high-quality child care.
By creating a tax system that builds up and supports families, we are strengthening our economy as a whole. As Congress considers other proposals on tax breaks for businesses, I hope you will stand with me and working families around the country in supporting changes to strengthen the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit. Any tax reform legislation passed by Congress must include provisions to support hard working families around the country.
