Dear Ohio Legislator:
It’s time to pass paid family and medical leave in Ohio. This is a vital program it will boost Ohio's economy as it: Helps parents stay in their jobs; benefits businesses by increasing productivity and saving recruitment and retraining costs; saving taxpayer dollars because other longer-term programs aren’t needed; increases public health by lowering infant and maternal mortality; allows people to establish breastfeeding, and much more. In short, this is a win-win-win-win-win policy.
Yet at this time, the US is one of only 7 countries in the world without this critical policy in place – and only 13 states plus the District of Columbia currently have a paid family and medical leave law. This means that only 27% of workers have access to this policy – and it also means that 1 in 4 people had to return to work within just 2 weeks of giving birth, often still recovering.
Now, Ohio should pass this critical policy too. Paid family and medical leave is an investment in the health and economic well being of families and communities. It’s a vital program that benefits business and will boost Ohio's economy.
Your constituents are counting on you to ensure everyone has the tools – including access to paid family and medical leave – to be able to work, take care of our families, and contribute to our communities. You can improve the health and economic well-being of all working families, help businesses thrive, and open avenues for our economy to grow by passing paid family and medical leave in your state.
