Dear U.S. Senators:
With only a fixed number of days left in the legislative session, it is imperative that members of the Senate act with a sense of urgency to pass the Build Back Better Act this year and to ensure paid family and medical leave remains in the package.
Particularly in this time of an ongoing public health emergency due to the pandemic, in order to maintain workforce attachment and not have critical illness or the arrival of a new child push people entirely out of the labor force, comprehensive and permanent paid family and medical leave must be included and remain in the final package. Paid family/medical leave not only helps families remain healthy and thrive in the face of an ongoing pandemic, Covid-19 variants, and job market fluctuations but it benefits the overall economy, lowers inflation, and contributes to racial and gender equity.
Paid family/medical leave is the investment families, small businesses, and the economy desperately need. As one of the most broadly supported provisions within the Build Back Better Act, paid leave is key to building back better, to our stability and prosperity as a nation and it is a commitment to women and communities of color who have faced growing gender and racial inequities in the care infrastructure.
There is no grey area here, what is evident is that we need you to pass paid family and medical leave and the Build Back Better Act this year.
Thank you,
