Dear Senators,
12.6 million people are still unemployed in the U.S. because of the economic fallout of COVID-19. Frontline workers are struggling everyday without the proper protection or support they need. And parents are in an impossible juggling act to pay their bills, care for their children, put food on the table, and avoid eviction.
The American people and our economy are in desperate need of a robust, comprehensive COVID-relief package now. This is the real emergency!
What is not an emergency is filling the seat left vacant by the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Having the confirmation hearings and vote before the election results, and while people are already voting early in many states, is a repudiation of the principles the Republicans set out during the Obama administration for Supreme Court nominations. We urge you to honor Justice Ginsburg’s dying wish and the past precedent set by the U.S. Senate by not holding any hearings or votes on the U.S. Supreme Court before the inauguration.
Please shift your focus instead to the real emergency facing our nation: COVID-19. We need you to lift our economy and families, including people who’ve lost their jobs, families that are facing eviction, and kids who are going to bed hungry, by immediately passing a comprehensive COVID-19 relief package.
Thank you,
