Dear Members of the Virginia General Assembly:
On behalf of MomsRising’s over 1 million members nationwide, including more than 62,000 right here in the Commonwealth, we are writing to share our deepest gratitude for your historic leadership in passing statewide paid family and medical leave.
Because of your persistence and your commitment to families, this landmark legislation is now a reality. This is a life-changing victory for the nearly 3.2 million workers in Virginia who will no longer have to face the impossible choice between their health, their loved ones, and their paychecks. By ensuring that workers can be there for life’s most important moments, you have strengthened the very fabric of our communities.
We want to specifically recognize Senator Jennifer Boysko and Delegate Briana Sewell for their years of relentless advocacy and for championing the voices of mothers and caregivers in the halls of the General Assembly. We also thank Governor Abigail Spanberger, in anticipation of her signing the bill into law, for her steadfast support and for ensuring that Virginia families are at the heart of her administration's agenda.
By passing this law, you have not only secured the economic future of millions of Virginians but have also sent a powerful message to the rest of the country: State-level progress is the engine of national change. Thank you for standing with us, for listening to our stories, and for proving that when we work together, we can build a world where everyone has the time they need to care for the ones they love.
Sincerely,
