It’s been over eight months since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, striking down our constitutional right to abortion in the United States., And as of February 2023, abortion is completely illegal in 12 states, leaving millions without abortion access in their home state. Our lawmakers must understand that passing a federal bill will protect the right to access abortion care throughout the U.S. by safeguarding us against the harsh bans and medically unnecessary restrictions in which we are currently experiencing, living through, and witnessing every single day on the state level.

The Woman’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) is an important step forward in ensuring that people have attainable access to quality, affordable, and compassionate reproductive services and abortion in their state.

Dear Member of Congress,

We are in a post-Roe public health emergency that is deeply impacting people already facing systemic health, racial and economic discrimination. As one of over a million members of MomsRising, I am writing to ask that you support the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), a bill that is essential to social and economic equality, reproductive autonomy, and the right to determine our own lives.

Abortion restrictions are part of the intertwined systems of oppression that deny Black, Indigenous, Latina/x people, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those living in rural and other medically underserved areas access to their rights. These groups are the ones who are hurt most by abortion restrictions and who already face barriers to accessing health care and with the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe, millions without access to essential health care. WHPA is federal legislation that will re-establish a nationwide right to abortion.

12 states have banned abortion outright since Roe was overturned and another 8 are likely to follow their lead. WHPA will protect the right to access abortion care, nationwide, and safeguard access against bans and medically unnecessary restrictions.
