Dear Elected Leader,
It’s critical that Congress and the Biden administration take immediate steps to prevent the evictions of millions of families, which some studies show will disproportionately impact mothers and especially moms of color who are experiencing increased economic instability.
We urge Congress and the White House to:
- Extend the eviction moratorium immediately.
- Work with state and local governments to ensure emergency rental assistance is quickly distributed. According to the National Low Income Housing Association, only $3 billion of the $46 billion in emergency rental relief passed by Congress has been spent.
- Direct courts to stop evictions for renters applying for emergency renters assistance
- Eliminate barriers to accessing emergency renters assistance and require landlords to provide 30-days-notice to renters before beginning eviction actions
- Work to build long-term solutions and fix the gaps in our federal housing safety net
There isn’t a second to waste. The longer we wait the longer families are at risk of eviction. Families are trying their best and shouldn’t have to pay the price of relief funding delays and a pandemic that continues to devastate our communities.
Please take immediate action to ensure millions of children and families have safe, secure places to live as they continue to weather the impacts of the pandemic.
Sincerely,
