Dear Members of Congress,
I am writing as your constituent to express my deep concern and alarm over proposals to dramatically increase funding for ICE and CBP with no constraints while families across the country are struggling to make ends meet.
Families are facing rising costs at every turn, from health care and prescription drugs, to rent, childcare, and groceries. ICE and CBP already have an estimated $100 billion in unspent funds, with little accountability for how the money is being used. At a time when families need real relief, I urge you to vote no on a deeply harmful proposal that would direct another $70 billion in taxpayer dollars to ICE and CBP.
Rather than investing in solutions that help families afford everyday life, this proposal doubles down on detention, deportation, and family separation. With $70 billion, we could instead provide Medicaid coverage for 2.5 million people through September 2029. Expanding harmful enforcement policies would not only devastate immigrant communities but also pull essential workers out of industries like agriculture, construction, health care, home care, child care, and food service, worsening labor shortages and driving up costs for everyone.
Making ends meet has become harder than ever for families across our nation. It is time to put families first and get our priorities straight. Our taxpayer dollars should be invested in health care, education, childcare, and programs that strengthen families and our economy, not in policies that separate families, weaken the economy, and create chaos.
I urge you to stand on the right side of history and oppose any effort to expand funding for ICE and CBP at the expense of working families and essential community programs.
Sincerely,
