Dear Member of Congress,
Momentum is building across the country for Healthy School Meals for All, with eight states passing no-cost school meals for all policies. A majority of voters (63%) across the country want Congress to pass legislation making free school meals available for all students. We are urging you to support and pass legislation that provides free, healthy meals for all students, including:
- The Universal School Meals Program Act, which would create school meals for all nationwide.
- Three other bills that have been introduced would increase participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which allows high-need schools to offer free meals to all students:
- The School Meals Expansion Act
- The No Hungry Kids in School Act
- The Expanding Access to School Meals Act
No child should have to wonder where their next meal is going to come from, especially in a school setting. That is why we are calling on you to support and pass legislation that would allow schools to implement healthy school meals for all students.
Moms know that children who have access to no-cost school meals do better both in and out of school. In addition to reducing child hunger, providing school meals at no cost to families helps improve academic performance and student health and eliminates the “lunch shaming” and stigma experienced by many children.
It is time to pass federal legislation that will allow schools to implement Healthy School Meals for All.
Sincerely,
