I am writing in strong support of HB 1075 and HB 1477 to expand and improve the Working Families Tax Credit.
We urge you to vote both bills out of House Finance as soon as possible. These bills represent extensive stakeholder engagement between the Department of Revenue (DOR) and organizations across the state to identify the most-needed to improve accessibility of the credit.
- House Bill 1075: Expands the Working Families Tax Credit to an estimated 220,000 low-income, working young people and seniors without kids. From young college students to seniors still in the workforce, people with low incomes are all trying to make ends meet. However, the current age range for childless workers limits the lifesaving WFTC cash to those who are 25-65 years old.
- House Bill 1477: Makes much-needed technical and administrative fixes to the program, including allowing filers to apply for up to 3 years (in alignment with the IRS standards) and expanding to married filing separately filers, a critical inclusion for survivors of domestic violence.
Because of your leadership, Washington made history in 2021 when the legislature passed and funded the Working Families Tax Credit. This credit is a first-of-its-kind policy for the state that will put up to $1,200 back into the pockets of families across the state. We know this is just the start of our mission to make sure every Washingtonian can put food on the table, pay for emergencies, and go to sleep with peace of mind.
We urge your support!
Thank you for all that you do!
