In 2000, after rigorous review of the scientific evidence and a cautious regulatory approach, the FDA approved mifepristone for use. For a dozen years before this, mifepristone was already being used safely by women in Europe.

Most recently, the FDA approved a generic version of mifepristone twice, both times during Trump administrations, reaffirming what decades of research shows: mifepristone is safe and effective.
