Dear Member of Congress,
We urge you to support the bipartisan Senate version of the Farm Bill that protects SNAP and reject the House version that weakens this vital food assistance program.
SNAP is the nation’s first line of defense against hunger. Almost 80% of people who benefit from SNAP are children, seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans. SNAP also benefits the local economy; every dollar spent on SNAP benefits generates roughly $1.50 in economic activity. The Senate Farm Bill framework offers a bold vision for addressing hunger by protecting SNAP benefits and increasing SNAP access.
In contrast, the House Farm Bill framework undermines food security by eliminating future U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Thrifty Food Plan benefit adjustments. SNAP currently averages only about $6 per person per day– the House Farm Bill proposal would cut this benefit over time to even less than $6 per person per day. We demand a stop to these cuts to SNAP, which would harm tens of millions of senior citizens, children, people with disabilities, and other SNAP recipients who would receive less food assistance in the future.
Please support the Senate Farm Bill framework that continues the bipartisan tradition of aiding farmers and protecting the food assistance SNAP provides to over 42 million people each month.
Sincerely,
