Protect Families. Protect Caregivers. Tell Congress to Save TPS.

Because of the cuts to care programs in Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, families across the country are already facing higher costs and a growing shortage of affordable health care, child care, and aging and disability care. And now, the Trump administration has ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) protections for 1.3 million people, including at least 50,000 healthcare workers who provide essential care in our communities.

Urge the Trump Administration to act immediately to extend TPS for Haiti and El Salvador and demand Congress pass the American Dream and Promise Act which would provide a path to citizenship for TPS recipients and Dreamers, allowing families to stay together and protect essential healthcare, homecare, and childcare workers in our communities.

Dear Secretary Mullin and Member of Congress,

We urge you to take immediate action to protect Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders and their families by extending TPS for El Salvador and Haiti, Lebanon, Ukraine, and Sudan, restoring TPS protections that have been terminated, and advancing permanent legislative protections that keep families together and strengthen our nation's care infrastructure.

Families are already struggling with the rising costs of child care, health care, and aging and disability care. At a time when our country faces a severe shortage of caregivers, ending TPS would make these challenges even worse.

The consequences extend far beyond the individuals directly affected. TPS holders contribute an estimated $29 billion to the U.S. economy each year, pay $7.8 billion in federal, state, and local taxes, and are parents to approximately 390,000 U.S. citizen children. Deporting long-term workers would weaken local economies, disrupt businesses, and increase costs for families nationwide.

The impact on our care economy would be especially severe. Many TPS holders serve as nurses, nursing assistants, home health aides, child care providers, and other essential caregivers. They make up an estimated 15% of all noncitizen healthcare workers in the United States. Losing thousands of experienced caregivers would worsen existing workforce shortages, forcing nursing homes to reduce capacity, home care agencies to turn away patients, and hospitals to operate with fewer staff. Families caring for children, older adults, and loved ones with disabilities would bear even greater financial and emotional burdens.

America's families need policies that strengthen—not weaken—our care infrastructure and economy. Protecting TPS holders also means protecting Americans who are in dire need of high-quality and affordable childcare, home care, and healthcare. We respectfully urge you to:

Extend TPS for El Salvador, Haiti, and all TPS-designated countries facing imminent expiration.
Restore TPS protections for countries whose designations have been terminated.
Advance permanent legislative protections that provide long-term stability for TPS holders and their families, such as the American Dream and Promise Act
Reject policies that separate families and undermine the essential workforce our communities depend on.

We trust that you will stand with families by helping keep them together, strengthen our care economy, and ensure that long-term members of our communities can continue contributing to the country they call home.
