Tell Governor Hochul: NY Families Need Quality, Affordable, Accessible Child Care.

From Niagara Falls to Long Island, parents all over New York State are struggling to find and pay for child care. We need to lift our voices and urge Gov. Hochul and New York lawmakers to make bold, transformational investments in child care in New York. We need YOUR voice to get this WIN over the finish line!

This year, Gov. Hochul and our lawmakers have an opportunity to make bold and meaningful investments that would enable New York to take critical steps toward achieving universal child care.

A meaningful investment of $5B would help ensure that the child care sector would do three things:

Expand access to child care subsidies, prioritizing low-income families and families struggling with unemployment, homelessness, disability or other challenges.
Allow child care workers to be paid living wages by investing more in compensation.
Reimburse child care providers at rates that reflect the true cost of providing child care.

New York State must invest now to make sure our child care system works; that parents are able to afford care, and that early care educators are able to make family supporting wages.

Now is the time to make this meaningful and bold investment to move New York State towards universal child care.

Parents all over New York are struggling to pay for and find quality child care. Our early care educators are not making living wages and COVID has shut down so many of our child care centers. In short, our parents and early care educators are suffering.

New York State can lead the way in the nation by creating a child care system where every family has access to affordable, quality child care and early education that is developmentally, educationally, and culturally appropriate.

We need to respect those who provide child care as skilled professionals and ensure they have good wages and benefits. We can build a system that enhances the health and stability of families and communities.

This is the moment to make child care for every NY family a reality! We urge you to invest $5 billion to support child care in the 2022-2023 budget. As you know, access to child care is an economic issue, an education issue, and an issue that affects every community throughout New York State. With the child care system in crisis, the time to invest is now!

All children from Niagara Falls to Long Island should have access to affordable, high-quality child care and early education so kids can thrive, parents can work, and we can build healthy communities.
