Dear Washington State Members of Congress,
Mothers, caregivers, and families must be centered in the Build Back Better plan. The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the inequities and shortcomings of our nation’s social net with communities and families of color, people with disabilities, people who are older, and people who are low income disproportionately bearing the brunt of insufficient policies.
I am writing today to urge you to ensure that Paid Family and Medical Leave is accessible to everyone in our state and the nation; that families, particularly working-class families have child care they can count on; that housing justice exists; that we have living wages; that there is access to equitable health care (including mental health), and that our state and nation’s immigrant families and essential workers have the pathway to citizenship they deserve. We urge you to fight for these issues not only for our families, but for all families who know that the Reconciliation Package will change their lives.
Families have shown great resilience and courage through this pandemic, it is time for lawmakers to do the same. We are urging you to remember that families and caregivers are at the heart of our country and they must be at the heart of the final reconciliation package, so that we can build back better.
We've compiled a video of our 2020-2021 Washington state MomsForce Fellows' asks for you to stand with us and fight for a strong final Reconciliation Package. You can watch it here. We need you to make bold and robust investments for our communities and our country. We ask that you fight for us.
