Dear Legislator,
As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to work with your colleagues in the Washington State Legislature to pass and fund the Working Families Tax Credit. Families are rallying in Olympia this Thursday in support of this critical proposal.
Families across Washington are struggling with the rising cost of living, and the Working Families Tax Credit would go a long way to help families afford basic needs and invest in a stronger future. This new refundable tax credit will put hundreds of dollars back into the pockets of nearly 1 million households.
At MomsRising, we have heard directly from our members how much these extra funds would mean for families who are struggling to get by. One member shared that she could pay her special needs son's medical copays for an entire year with $350. Another parent shared that she would use the money to repair her car. And one parent shared that they would use the money to get her eye glasses fixed, which she has gone without corrective lenses for too long.
29 other states have a Working Families Tax Credit, Washington should be one of them. Research has shown that refundable tax credits like the Working Families Tax Credit lead to healthier moms and babies, better educational outcomes for children, and could help close the racial wealth gap and the gender wage gap. It is pro-work, pro-family, and one of the best policies we have for combatting poverty.
I urge your support and your support of the Working Families Tax Credit.
Sincerely,
