As your constituent and as a member of MomsRising, I am writing in solidarity with a coalition of more than thirty-five community-based organizations across Washington in support of the Working Families Tax Credit (HB 1297/SB 5387). Both bills are being heard this week so I am reaching out to share my support. If you have already signed on, thank you!
Washington needs a recovery rebate like the Working Families Tax Credit.
All of us should be able to put food on the table and have a roof over our heads. Flexible, direct cash can help people who are struggling to make ends meet during this economic crisis and support our state’s recovery. Direct cash in the form of the Working Families Tax Credit also addresses the fact that Black, Indigenous, and other people of color have been hardest hit by this crisis because of longstanding barriers to opportunity, such as redlining and employment discrimination. This includes many Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) filers—an important group of taxpayers that includes immigrants and survivors of domestic violence.
The Working Families Tax Credit will put cash in the pockets of those who need it and boost local economies with spending at Main Street businesses. I urge you to use your voice, your power, and your vote to support passing the Working Families Tax Credit!
