Have you experienced wage discrimination?
Has your paycheck been impacted by unequal pay or wage discrimination?
Have you been paid less than your male coworkers for discriminatory reasons? Like simply being a woman or having a disability? Perhaps you were or are pregnant? Or maybe you were paid less because of your sexual orientation? Just know that you are not alone.
The 2024 U.S Census Bureau wage data shows a persistent wage gap for women. Due to sexism, racism, bias, and overall lack of structural accountability in how wages are determined, moms and caregivers across all races and ethnicities are currently underpaid.
According to the data, for every dollar a man is paid, a woman working full-time, year-round typically is paid just 81 cents, a gap that has grown wider since 2023. When looking at all earners, including part-time/seasonal, part-year, and full-time, women, on average, only make 76 cents compared to men.
The pay disparities are even more severe for women of color! Here is the new breakdown on the pay gaps by race and gender:
- Latinas compared to white, non-Hispanic men
- Full time: 58 cents
- All earners: 54 cents
- Asian American women compared to white, non-Hispanic men
- Full time: 96 cents
- All earners: 85 cents
- Black women compared to white, non-Hispanic men
- Full time: 65 cents
- All earners: 63 cents
As moms, parents, caregivers, community members, we know that lower earnings equals fewer resources for childcare and food budgets, less access to housing options, and smaller safety nets or none at all. We're working to ensure equal pay is a reality in everyone's wages and we want to hear your story!
