A living wage. Paid sick days. Paid family and medical leave. These policies represent the essential building blocks of what working people need to provide for themselves and their families. But in North Carolina none of them are guaranteed by law.

On March 25^th from 9 am-2 pm, MomsRising will be joining forces with the NC Families Care and Raising Wages coalitions to hold a Day of Action lifting up the need for commonsense workplace policies and living wages. RSVP now to join us!

Why do NC lawmakers need to hear from you now? The efforts of hardworking people keep North Carolina’s economy going – we deserve family-friendly workplace policies and realistic wages that help all families thrive!

In North Carolina:

The minimum wage has been $7.25/hr and the tipped hourly wage has been $2.13/hr since 2008! As the cost of living continues to rise, these wages are not enough to afford basic necessities. The NC 2025 Living Income Standard for a household with one adult and one child is $36.30/hour – families can’t survive on poverty wages!

1.5 million working North Carolinians have ZERO paid sick days for themselves or a sick family member they care for to recover from a short term illness, to go to the doctor, or to seek help if they are the victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.

While almost all working people will need to take leave at some point in their lives to recover from a health crisis, welcome a new child, or care for a seriously ill or dying loved one, only 1 in 5 working North Carolinians is able to take leave to recover or provide care without losing the paycheck they need. 79% of our state’s workers – about 4 million people – don’t have paid leave through their jobs to be there for life’s joys and emergencies.
