Strolling Thunder is headed to Raleigh–come join us!
Join us for a playdate with a purpose!
We're bringing babies, children, parents, early educators, and other early childhood advocates to Raleigh to call attention to what babies, children, and families in North Carolina need to thrive.
It’s going to be a blast! There will be story time with lawmakers, crafts, snacks, bubbles, a dress up bin and selfie station, and dress up hats for every child to take home. We can’t wait to see the next generation of North Carolinians playing on the lawn at the General Assembly with lawmakers! They are sure to deliver a powerful message of the importance of investing in babies, kids, and families.
Here are all the details:
What: Strolling Thunder: A Think Babies™ NC Advocacy Day
When: Tuesday, April 9, 2019 (during Week of the Young Child!), 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. The story time, crafts, and activities will happen on the lawn between 10:00-11:30. After that, we will begin deliveries to lawmakers’ offices. Come for however long you can!
Where: Halifax Mall at the NC General Assembly, Raleigh, NC (this is the grassy area across the walking bridge directly behind the General Assembly building which is located at 16 West Jones St)

What if I'm not comfortable speaking to a legislator?
You don't have to speak with a legislator in order to be part of Strolling Thunder, but we are happy to work with you to make you feel more comfortable! We will offer a virtual training prior to the event, and if you're not ready to meet with your legislator on your own, you will still have an opportunity to join a group to deliver Think Babies™ NC materials to legislative offices.
Should I bring my child?
Yes, children are welcome and encouraged to attend! We will have story time with legislators, children's activities, crafts, and supplies to decorate strollers. Children are also welcome and encouraged to go to meetings with legislators.
Where should I park?
This event will take place at Halifax Mall at the NC General Assembly, which is the lawn located between the Legislative Building and the Legislative Office Building (intersection of Salisbury St. and Lane St.). There are several parking lots and parking decks nearby. This map indicates visitor parking lots, all of which are within walking distance.
What if it rains?
Strolling Thunder will take place rain or shine! If it is raining, the event will be moved to the auditorium in the NC Museum of History (5 E Edenton St, Raleigh, NC 27601).
Will there be food?
Light snacks and water will be available. There are also many restaurants nearby.
Will there by child care during the event?
No, all parents are responsible for watching and caring for their children during the event.
How can I participate if I can't be in Raleigh that morning?
We can help you organize a meeting in your home district. You can also join the conversation on social media using #ThinkBabiesNC and let lawmakers know why you think it's important to invest in the needs of babies and families in our state! And we’ll be sending out an alert that morning asking you to have our backs in Raleigh.
