Help turnout NC women voters–join our letter writing effort!
This fall MomsRising is joining forces with NC Women Matter to turn out women to vote all across the state–and we need your help!
Handwritten letters are a proven way to increase voter turnout without ever having to leave your couch. This election we are aiming to get thousands of notes out to women in cities all across North Carolina. Can you help?
Last election, volunteers sent nearly 13,000 handwritten notes encouraging women across the state to vote. It worked!! According to a study by NC Women Matter and Democracy North Carolina, women who received the notes were 4.9% more likely to vote. That makes a big difference!
So what does the woman-to-woman letter writing campaign involve? It’s really up to you. When you sign up, you let us know how many letters you think you can write. We’ll send you names and addresses back along with some suggested language you could use in your short note (it’s all nonpartisan and focused on issues impacting women!) You pull out your favorite notecards and write a brief message for each woman’s name we send you. Then you put a stamp on it and drop it in the mail. It’s that easy.
But what we’ve found is that letter-writing–like most things in life–is more fun with friends. So we suggest thinking of a few friends you’d like to invite over to write notes together while you share snacks, listen to some music, let the kids play, or whatever works for you. You multiply your impact, get some quality time with you friends, and know you made a difference. If you plan to throw a letter-writing party, we recommend requesting 10 names for each person you expect to attend.
Can we count on you to write a few notes between now and November? Sign up here, and we’ll send you everything you need to get started!
